2020 Guide for Weed Control for Hort Crops now available

February 18, 2020  By Fruit and Vegetable

The Guide is released annually with the most up to date information for growers regarding weed control and pesticide use.

Ontario’s Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs (OMAFRA) released its annual publication, publication 75B, a guide for weed control for horticultural crops.

Each year a committee comprised of representatives from provincial government, industry, academia and grower organizations ensure the publication is up to date.

Given the recent Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) re-evaluations of some products – such as chlorothalonil – it’s important growers consult the publication to make sure they are using pesticides according to their new uses. For chlorothalonil, its new use rules are in effect starting May 10, 2020.

The publication covers herbicides used in Ontario’s horticulture crops, various treatments available for vegetable crops, berry crops, tree fruit, tree nuts and grapes, as well as nursery and ornamental crops.

The Guide to Weed Control – Hort Crops can be accessed online or available in print from Publications Ontario in March.

A print copy can also be purchased at OMAFRA’s booth at the upcoming Ontario Fruit and Vegetable Convention held at Niagara Falls from Feb. 19 to 20. A copy costs $26.25 with tax included.
